Hy-Q Colloquium by Si-Hui Tan, Research Scientist, Horizon Quantum Computing

Abstract:

Quantum computing, that is processing information using quantum effects, is considered to be one of the most disruptive technology today. It promises to transform broad swathes of industry from finance to drug design by accelerating certain optimization and machine-learning tasks, and by enabling more accurate simulations of chemicals. The development of quantum computing hardware is reaching a tipping point where quantum computers will be practical, and industries are showing excitement in their potential. However, some gaps still have to be bridged in order to utilize a quantum computer, and they open up a wealth of exciting business opportunities. I will describe how existing companies participate in the emerging quantum economy in light of these gaps and share my experience on transitioning from academia to industry.
